What you don't know about these 12 ingredients could hurt you

Consumer reports Health.org is keen to highlight so-called "dangerous supplements" available in many natural health products.

The report is available on their website.

The supplements include a number of traditional herbal remedies that have been used for years by herbalists and natural health practitioners.

Whilst there is the potential for misuse with any effective medicinal product - be it natural or synthetic - there is also the potential for good.

But who decides on the evidence about these products?

Our partners include: British Medical Journal (BMJ) Publishing Group, the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, Therapeutic Research Center, the American Academy of Family Physicians, and DestinationRx.com."

I would challenge the "unbiased independence" of the information presented on their website.   

If they are providing information on herbal medicines, why ask the opinion of "experts" who have no qualifications whatsoever in herbal medicine, no experience in their use, and no expertise in that area.

Whilst they are entitled to their opinion, my contention is that it is only that - an opinion.

Others - natural health practitioners and herbalists, qualified and experienced in the appropriate use of herbal medicines - are also entitled to their opinion, which is much more likely to be valuable, as this is their area of expertise.
